The primary function of digital signage systems in public transportation areas such as subways, railways, bus stations, and airports is the delivery of information. These systems typically contain lists of information, such as arrival and departure times, no video, and fewer advertisementsthan a traditional commercial ad signage platform. Often they are simple text-based or limited graphics displays. They must be efficient, with extremely reliable hardware that can easily integrate with back-end systems for maintenance and operation. Taoyuan International Airport in Taiwan wanted to upgrade its signage system to one which was fully automatic, and could display flight information, controlled from a centralized back-office location. The install would affect hundreds of displays located throughout the airport. In addition they wanted the displays capable of presenting more service-oriented data, such as lifestyle and society information, advertisements, as well as luggage and baggage handling updates.
Solution
Advantech’s DSA-2102 Digital Signage Player provided the solution the Taoyuan International Airport needed. Given the scale of the project, the solutionhad to easily integrate with existing back-end systems, it needed to be reliable, and it needed to be cost-effective. DSA-2102 is able to store and display rich media content, including video audio, graphics and text. It is IP-enabled allowing the airport to centrally-manage all the devices. Content is distributed and stored locally, and played according to pre-defined playlists or direct commands issued by airport administrators. With the most advanced decoder and graphic processor available, it is able to process high definition digital and analog signals to a variety of display devices such as plasma, LCD and digital projectors, giving the Taoyuan airport the versatility they need to support existing and future applications.
